Meet the Candidates Public Forum

Residents of Madrid will have the opportunity to learn more about Madrid’s candidates for mayor and Ward 2 councilperson at a public forum on Monday, July 23 in the Madrid High School student center from 7-9 p.m.

This will be a moderator-led forum with questions being submitted prior to the event and by filling out a card at the forum. The moderator for the event will be Jim Turbes with KWBG radio in Boone.

Special Election and Candidate Deadline

The City of Madrid will hold a Special Election in July. Residents will vote for mayor and 2nd ward council member. Individuals interested in running for either position must fill out an Affidavit of Candidacy Form and a Nomination Position Form containing 10 signatures. Note that signatures for the 2nd ward position must come from eligible electors in the 2nd ward area of Madrid, and it is recommended to acquire additional signatures in case some do not county. Forms are available in Madrid at the City Clerk’s Office, at the Auditor’s Office in Boone, and at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. The deadline for candidate filing is July 6 at 5:00pm in the auditor’s office.
The Special Election will be held on July 31.
